Hunter Allen

Hunter is a former professional cyclist for the Navigators team and has raced for over 17 years in Europe, South America, the U.S. and Canada. He is also the owner of the Peaks Coaching Group, Inc., and the co-developer of CyclingPeaks Software, as well as an Elite level USA Cycling Coach. He is a sought after speaker on training with power meters and is a featured presenter in many of the USA Cycling Seminars.

Widely known as one of the top experts in the world in coaching athletes using power meters, he has analyzed over 3000 power meter files and has gotten it down to an artful science. As the co-developer of CyclingPeaks Software, he set out to try to create CyclingPeaks Software from the viewpoint of bringing an athlete and coach closer, and also bringing a simple program to beginning Power meter users. His goal has always been to teach the athletes he coaches how to analyze their own power meter data using the latest tools. This goes hand in hand with his power meter training philosophy, that a power meter is a tool for an athlete to help discover their true weaknesses, quantitatively assess training improvements and refine the focus of their training.

As a former professional cyclist, Hunter has over 40 career victories and was considered a great all-around rider. His knowledge of racing tactics and strategies is considered one of his strengths as a coach. He trains you, and then he also coaches you on all the tactics and strategies in the race. With his extensive background of racing experience and race wins, he knows what it takes to be a winner!

Hunter is also very interested in nutrition as a way to improve my personal cycling performance and to solve the mystery of muscle cramps. As a certified nutritional consultant, he can offer you the total package for helping you to achieve your goals.

Since retiring from professional cycling, he started The Peaks Coaching Group, Inc. and currently works with Olympic, professional and recreational athletes as well as people who are interested in taking a positive step towards good health. As a coach, he makes sure to look at each athlete as a whole individual person. He excels in designing a custom program designed for you. Hunter says, “I believe that we are human beings working closely with other human beings, and it's important that as a coach, I develop a realistic plan that works in your life. I work hard to find out your strengths, weaknesses, and help you to improve and hone your skills as an athlete.”

He continues, “It's important that a coach learn as much as he can about you as an athlete and as a person in order to better develop the best plan for you. I have coached over 250 athletes ranging from Cyclists to Water Polo Players to speed skaters to weightlifters to Mothers wanting to lose weight, and I learn something new with each client. A Coach and an athlete work together as a team to help the athlete achieve their goals, no matter what they are.....it's team work that makes the difference. Good interaction and honesty on both sides are what I know to be important in your success.”

In the 8 years that he has been coaching, the athletes that Hunter has trained have won over 400 events, including two national championships, and many regional and district titles.

Hunter holds a B.A. in Economics from Randolph-Macon College, is a USA Cycling Elite Coach, a certified Endurance Coach, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Fitness Trainer, Certified Coach for the Leukemia Society- Team in Training- Virginia Head Coach for Cycling, Certified Nutritional Consultant, Certified Yoga Teacher and also teaches Tai Chi.

He is the father of 2 boys, Thomas, 6 and Jack, 3 so he knows the demands of juggling family, business and pleasure. He has been married to his ‘Super Wife’, Kate for 11 years. In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing, ice climbing, yoga, tai chi, bee keeping and of course cycling!
